The Ikorodu – Oga Development Association (IKODASS), the umbrella body of all the clubs, associations and area bases in Ikorodu, and the organisers of the annual Ikorodu Oga Carnival, has explained reasons for the introduction of Fanti carnival.
The carnival comes up on Saturday, November 8, along with Inter – Religious Service, Woro Processesion, and Heritage Performance.
The Fanti, which is being introduced into the state recognized Ikorodu – Oga Carnival for the first time in the 34 years of its existence, has been said to be a vital mobilising factor that has seen every quarter and sub – quarters of Ikorodu Kingdom, participating in the pre – carnival activities in their large numbers.
Every area in Ikorodu, in the preparation for the 34th edition of the carnival, is now wearing new looks as residents get ready for the Ikorodu Oga Celebration which has promised to be a massive and bigger event.

Ahaji Kolawole Fatai Olayiwola, Chairman, IKODASS, and Comrade Pelumi Olalekan (Rado), the initiator/coordinator of the IKODASS Fanti Carnival, enumerated its objectives which he said is primarily to bring together residents for full participation.
“The primary objective is to accommodate and encourage the participation of indigenes and non-indigenes; residents of all components of Ikorodu town vis-a-vis AGA, IJOMU and ISELE and by extension, the Ituns, the itas, atewos, etc, in the Ikodass Fanti Carnival, Grand Finale and other activities of IKODASS, during festive period.
“To make ours a funfair and colourful festive activities among the comity of Yoruba race and the Ijebu nation both locally and international wise”.

The organisers also stated showcasing and promoting Ikorodu’s rich cultural heritage and unity and tourism as other reasons that the idea was introduced.
“To display the rich cultural heritage of Ikorodu, in order to transmit our customs and traditions across generations, especially among the youths at home and abroad.
“To foster unity and boost our local economy through tourism and commerce”, IKODASS added.
Also taking place on November 8, which is the official flag – off of this year’s Ikorodu Oga Carnival are the commencement of the annual IKODASS Market Expo and the Royal – White Party
